Rev.
Alfred L. Harris, Sr., was born July 15, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan.
He is the youngest of five children born to the late William H. and
Lucy V. Harris. Rev. Harris received his early education in the
Detroit Public School system, after which he spent his early years
working as a Machine Operator and Lineman.
Rev. Harris was called to the ministry at a young age,
and preached his first sermon in August 1972; at the Holy Ghost
Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, under the pastorate of the
late Rev. Henry Lewis. In 1976, he was ordained at the Twelfth St.
Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, where the Rev. Dr. Kenneth
Earl Harris was the Pastor. From 1977 to 1983, he served as
Associate Minister of Detroit’s Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist
Church under the leadership of the Rev. Welton Williams.
In 1983, Rev. Harris, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in
pursuit of his education. Successfully, in 1986, he graduated “Summa
Cum Laude”, from the American Baptist College. In 1993, he earned
his Master of Divinity Degree from Luther Northwestern Theological
Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is currently enrolled in the
Minnesota Consortium of Theological School’s, Doctor of Ministry
program.
Rev. Harris’ first pastorate was at the Parker’s Chapel
Baptist Church, Portland, Tennessee. In March 1987, he accepted the
call to become the Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church in
Minneapolis. From December 1995 through 1996, he served as the
interim Pastor of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church also in
Minneapolis. In 1999, Rev. Harris became the Pastor of the Redeemer
Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis. In May 2001, Pastor Harris
and the Redeemer Church family celebrated the completion of their
2.3 million dollar building restoration. He served at Redeemer until
accepting the call to Pastor the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church
here in Flint, Michigan, in June 2002.
Rev. Harris is a very
grateful and loving family man. His lovely wife Denise,
is a dynamic soloist, a Registered Nurse, and has a
degree in Psychology. His son Alfred Jr. (A.J.), is a
gifted musician, skilled in playing the Organ, Piano,
Drums and Singing. He now attends the American Baptist
College, in Nashville, Tennessee. His daughter Camille
(Daddy’s Baby), is a very talented Directress and
Singer, and attends Mott Community College; Shannon,
resides in Detroit and holds a Masters Degree in Special
Education, and Aprille who currently serves in the US
Navy and is stationed in Great Lakes, Ill.
Since Rev. Harris’ arrival at Macedonia, the membership
has reaped the benefits of his knowledge and skills in
leadership. Macedonia’s membership is steadily
increasing; he has involved himself directly in the
strengthening the Church with knowledge and
understanding of God’s word through his teaching in
Bible study. Pastor Harris has reinstituted the
Evangelistic Team and has enriched the Church through
various areas of the Church. He is a very nurturing and
caring man to his flock. Rev. Harris is also involved in
the Community sector of our community, serving on
several Boards and Advisory Committees. Rev. Alfred L.
Harris, Sr., is a humble “Man of God”, striving to
contribute to the up-building of “Man-Kind”, the
“Church”, and the “Kingdom of God”.
